What is Whipped Coffee?
Whipped Coffee is made from whipping together equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and water. Once whipped it forms a thick, glistening, rich foam that is served heaped on top of a glass of ice and milk. The resulting drink looks impressive and is perfect for those who love sugary, creamy drinks and are missing their favourite starbucks beverages.
Where did Whipped Coffee originate in?
Whipped coffee has become very popular in South Korea, with residents in lockdown keen to try out the latest sensation. It has recently become popular around the world after a TikTok video went viral. Whipped coffee has been around for a while though also being known in different parts of the world as Dalgona Coffee, Beaten Coffee, or Frappe Coffee.
How do you make Whipped Coffee?
You use equal parts of instant coffee, sugar and hot water. Most people use 2 Tablespoons of each. Put it all into a bowl and whip using either an electric beater (will take about 2-3 minutes) or by hand (takes about 10 minutes). Once the mixture is thick and frothy it is good to go! Fill a glass with ice and cold milk and dollop a spoonful of the whipped coffee on top. Mix and drink. Yummo!
How does it taste?
Whipped Coffee basically tastes like sweet instant coffee. However it does have a pleasant latte-like texture to it, which makes it feel rich and luxurious. It also looks very impressive and resembles a cafe style beverage. As always, the taste of your coffee will never exceed the quality of coffee you use. So when using instant coffee we recommend using good quality coffee.
